Welcome
In a small community located in Begha, West Sikkim, India, a population of mostly Buddhists, resides a rather large group of children from Nepal, who are transitioning into India through The Sunrise Academy.
All of the children come from impoverished families or are orphans with no one to provide for them. This school is a home away from home, giving opportunities their parents or families can't provide. At this time, besides improving school conditions and educating the children, feeding them and even teaching them proper hygiene...Now, the school is in need of an orphanage from the overflow of children who lack family support.
Established in 2005 in Begha, West Sikkim, India to provide better educational and development opportunities for the extremely underprivileged children in the region and has rapidly grown in the past 4 years from 30 students to 110 in 2009. Its expansion and reputation have quickly grown as regional locals continue to recognise it as giving their children a chance at life and has the potential to improve the long term economic conditions of the village. With very little consistent work in the village at present, the large majority of local families live in difficult and extremely, poor conditions.
About the children
The children at the school are aged between 3 and 15 years old and are consistently found taking care of each other as if they are family. This is recognised throughout the Sikkimese culture and it is quite amazing how caring, loving and warm these children are. Many do not live in ideal conditions and the majority can not afford to bring lunch to school each day. It's the hope of the Sunrise Academy Team can work with the school committee in building a Orphange to provide these children with regular meals, basic hygiene and a more ideal environment for their personal development.
Interested In Becoming A Helping Hand?
Hi There! I’m Ranprem, from the United States, residing in New Jersey. Throughout my volunteer work I’ve found time to study the arts of Yoga, Meditation and Healing Body work. I’m a Certified Yoga Instructor, Reiki Practioner and soon to be Massage Therapist.
Over the years I've volunteered for various causes througout the United States. I've had a passion and thirst for lending a hand, ever since I started volunteering in 2005. It would be an honor and a privilege to take the time to help others in need, especially for children who yearn for opportunities and have many limitations in this part of the world. I greatly admire these children and the culture they come from.
I'm reaching out to all those who truly are interested in supporting me as the extension of your hearts and hands, by donating whatever you're comfortable with sparing. It is my hope that we can all take part in making an impact within this village and these children's lives. In addition, your donations will not only support my trip to aiding the village, but ultimately the school and their supplies, the student's health, shelter, and quality of life, they would other wise not receive.
Let's keep this school alive, and try to give the children at least half of the opportunities we give our own.
Kindness is the true language of Humanity... Let's never fail to know the strength of our own Human-Kindness and it's reach...
Many Blessings of Love ~
